Retail Footfall Analytics
Accurate WiFi-powered footfall measurement from Ksubaka
Gain vivid insights into customer behaviour – by using your existing fleet of Ksubaka kiosks to give you a complete picture of how people move through your stores.
Traffic Analysis is a bolt-on service that we offer to clients who deploy our digital kiosks in store.
If you’ve already got a fleet of WiFi-connected devices running in-store, why not take advantage of their ability to provide accurate behavioural data around your customer?
Traffic Analysis - the basics
Most of your customers have smartphones in their pockets, and the majority of devices have their WiFi enabled. This means that their device is regularly scanning for WiFi connections. When these devices find your Ksubaka kiosk, they can’t connect, but they do leave a record of the attempted connection.
Your Ksubaka kiosk logs these connection attempts, as well as generic information about the kind of device that attempted to connect, and when.
This data is anonymised from the outset because no personal identifiers are ever recorded. This makes our Foot Traffic Analysis completely GDPR compliant by default. Data protection is never an issue because we never collect personal data.
Data gathered:
- Anonymous device ID (enables reporting of repeat visitors)
- Proximity to playSpot kiosk
- Time and date of visit
- Return visits
Why choose Ksubaka for Footfall Analytics?
Traditional retail foot traffic analysis involves manually counting visitors. And while you may capture an accurate snapshot of visitors during a particular period, there is no way to monitor changes over time. Constant counting and reporting are too expensive for anything other than periodic surveys.
The alternative is to use digital techniques to monitor visitor numbers. These usually involve installing new devices in your stores and providing power and connectivity. Although effective, these solutions are costly and time-consuming to implement.
Ksubaka offers Footfall Analytics as a bolt-on service to clients using our playSpot or Smiles digital kiosks.
Optimise kiosk placement
Are your Ksubaka kiosks positioned correctly? Or are you missing out on a significant volume of passing customers? By comparing performance between your stores, you can identify the common components of the most successful locations. This is an easy way to ensure your kiosks deliver maximum engagement in every outlet.
Understand shopper movements
Your Ksubaka kiosks can bring to life the otherwise hidden world of shopper behaviour. How do people flow through your stores? Are certain sections of your stores being neglected? Are there common routes that people follow? These are some of the questions you can answer with Footfall Analytics – so you can then address any issues and devise strategies for encouraging different customer behaviours.

Compare store performance
You already know which stores outperform the rest, and which outlets are struggling. But getting to the why is often much harder. Ksubaka Footfall Analytics provides a clearer view of customer numbers, patterns and behaviours, which can help diagnose performance issues and provide the evidence you need to optimise underperforming stores.
Identify trends and patterns
Over time, Footfall Analytics brings clarity to seasonal trends, and can help you identify and arrest declining traffic – before it becomes a problem. This always-on traffic analysis is enabled by using Ksubaka kiosks and their WiFi network; traditional manual techniques of retail traffic analysis make this kind of reporting impractical and unaffordable.
Compare footfall data to other variables
Customer behaviour isn’t just about your store. There are a host of other factors that can influence customer numbers and behaviours, including weather, seasonal changes, public holidays, major sporting events – even popular TV shows. Ksubaka Footfall Analytics gives you unprecedented insights into customer behaviours and priorities.
Bespoke footfall reporting
Are you trying to make sense of customer behaviour in your stores? We can customise reports so that you get the footfall data that you need to optimise your retail environments.
Footfall Analytics in action
One of our clients wanted to encourage customers to visit an underutilised section of their stores. Before they could implement nudges to shift customers to other areas, they needed to understand precisely how customers were moving through stores.
After preparing Footfall Analytics reports for our client, they were able to update the layout and signage and produce a 15% increase in footfall in the target section.
